SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS YOU CAN DO IN YOUR GARDEN

Welcome to our site! Bee Cafe' has science experiments you can do in your garden or with your school.

What is it about Flowers that attracts Bees?

What attracts bees to a flower?

Is it scent?

Is it the colour of the Flower?

Is it the shape of the flower?

Is it by accident that bees choose the flower?

Why do some flowers attract and others not so?

To find the answer we need to make a set of controlled experiments.

Getting started.

We will first need to make some items so that we can have a repeatable and controlled experiment.

What is a controlled experiment?

Well first thing to do is to make sure we are testing only one variable. That is we want to see if bees prefer one colour over another or the flower markings or the scent of the flower. For each test the basic flower will have to be the same.

Here (below) are the four steps to get all the things we need to start our experiments together.

1. What we Need to Start

To find the answer we first need to make a standard flower feeder. This will be our reference flower to which all the others will be compared.

2. How to make Bee food.

Bees like to be rewarded with food. So lets make some bee food that Bee keepers use in our experiment.

3. How will we know  the results?

We need for each experiment a record sheet and to choose the same time of day to study our experiment.

4. Tell us what you have discovered.

Tell us what you have found out about your bees. Scientists publish their experiment and their results. This way you like professional scientists have a voice that will change our world for the better.
